What We Wore to Lady Gaga’s artRave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour
When I found out I was going to Lady Gaga’s artRave tour, my first thought was, “What am I going to wear?!” Like any Little Monster, I wanted to worship her the way she would want to be worshiped—through a fabulous outfit.
"Telephone" is one of my favorite Lady Gaga songs of all-time, and I really wanted to recreate one of her looks from the video. With a little cardboard and hot glue, this YouTube tutorial, and a lot of patience, I managed to origami a solid version of her "Let’s Make a Sandwich" headpiece (it took 10 hours over the course of a couple days—but it was so worth it). A costume shop wig, fake eyelashes, and loads of blue eyeshadow completed my look, and I was ready to put my paws up and just dance.

When we caught wind that InStyle’s Market Editor Ali Pew was heading to Tulum, Mexico, we were struck with 1) jealousy, and 2) curiosity as to what she was going to wear.
Lucky us, she documented the whole thing. Above, she snapped a few of the pieces that she packed:

What We’re Wearing: One Denim Dress, Two Ways
If you ask us, denim is a year-round closet staple. Jorts (read: jean shorts) and shortalls work well as warm-weather bottoms and unexpected one-pieces, but few things are easier to style than a dress—especially for the office. Take this playful frock by Michael Stars made out of a soft tencel fabric, which Andrea and Claire both scooped up at the Cali brand’s curbside boutique.
While Andrea styled hers with a cool mint clutch and leather brogues (with poppy pink laces!), Claire opted for a western vibe with suede booties and oversized retro sunnies. The contrast pockets offer just enough room to stash a work ID. Get their outfit breakdowns below:

Look Who We Met: Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere
Lucky us! One of our favorite bloggers, Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere, stopped by the InStyle office to hang with our editors and dish on her new collection for Club Monaco. We’re loving the line’s sophisticated separates, like a crisp, tailored button-down and a structured pencil skirt with cool leather details.
Schuman rocked a flirty floral tunic dress from her collection. “Since it’s such a sweet piece, you could also offset it with a leather biker jacket, a smudgy smokey eye, and black booties,” she suggested. Noted!

What We’re Wearing: Shortalls

When overalls began popping up everywhere, I couldn’t have been more excited. They’re easy and adorable, and if Emma Watson is back on the bandwagon, so am I.

I began my search to find the perfect pair, and I couldn’t find any that I loved. So I asked my mom if she still had the black shortalls she used to wear in the ’90s, and luckily she had hung on to them. She sent them to me, and the rest is fashion history. I’ve only worn them twice so far, but I can already tell they will be my go-to all summer long. Clearly the love of overalls runs in the family. Thanks, mom!

What We Wore (Jazz Fest Edition): Claire Stern
My festival experiences thus far have been limited to New York and Chicago, so I admittedly wasn’t quite sure how to outfit myself for Jazz Fest. To me, New Orleans conjures up an image of women in the French Quarter wearing sequin dresses and feather boas, like in A Streetcar Named Desire, so for my first visit south of the Mason-Dixon line I decided to bring some downtown with me. This dress was an impulse purchase from one of our galleries on What to Pack for Coachella (the Empire Polo Club and the Fair Grounds are close enough, right?), and I paired it with faux Birkenstocks I picked up at Zara, because I love a good ‘90s comeback.
To hold the day’s essentials, I had my trusty (and appropriately-sized) 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchel, with crossbody straps to maximize dancing mobility. These Ralph Lauren sunnies prompted a man in the bathroom line to ask me if I went to the University of Alabama (I didn’t, but it turns out houndstooth is the school’s signature pattern), which made me feel like my southern sartorial mission was a success.

What We Wore (Coachella Edition): Laura Simola

"Since this was my first experience at Coachella, I gathered as much info as I could from seasoned Coachella-goers, like my colleagues and friends.

I borrowed InStyle Deputy Photo Director Michelle Egiziano’s LeSportsac animal print fanny pack, which was incredibly helpful. Believe me, hands-free and arms-free was the way to go. Since the festival is set in the desert, I packed light, breezy dresses and breathable pieces to keep cool—it got unbelievably hot during the day! With that said, I heard the temperature cools down at night, so I made sure to bring a kimono (worn above) to protect me from chilly breezes. Finally, sunscreen and sunglasses were definite musts… and comfortable shoes, since I knew I was going to be on my feet all day, stage-hopping.

There was so much inspiration packed into one weekend—from the music (Pharrell, Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, and HAIM were my top faves), to the art installations (which were handy spots to meet up with friends), and the eclectic festival style—it was truly magical. Now it’s time to start counting down the days ‘til next year’s Coachella!!”

What We’re Wearing: Overalls at the Office
"My entire first grade class can attest to the fact that I wore overalls to school every single day (almost exclusively from Gap Kids and OshKosh). Needless to say, I was on board with the trend when it made a high-fashion comeback. But, having grown a solid two feet since, I was struggling to find a pair that would look flattering and not childlike. My eyes lit up when I came across this pair by Paige Denim. The dark wash gives the tried-and-true style a modern update, and teaming it with ankle boots is a mature departure from my go-to patent leather Mary Janes.”
