What We’re Wearing: Men in Sneakers
Contrary to popular belief, there are men in our office, too. And, as is custom at a fashion magazine, these guys are sporting some seriously fashionable footwear (of the flat variety). By total coincidence, three of our male staffers showed up to work wearing vibrant sporty sneakers. Read the story behind their kicks below:
Alex Reside (InStyle.com Photo Editor) in Air Jordan
"I got sneaker fever last year when Jordan re-released the original color way of Jordan 3’s. I sat at my computer frantically refreshing as they sold out in seconds. I feel like it’s something about wanting what you can’t have that drove me crazy. So crazy, in fact, that I woke up on several Saturday mornings (when Jordans are typically released) and refreshed my browser at 8 a.m. hoping to catch a pair. I missed out on the Jordan 3 Retro “Fear Pack”, the Jordan 11 Retro “Gamma Blue”, and the Jordan 5 Retro “Oreo”. Sure, I overslept a few times and only have myself to blame, but after months of waiting for the right release for me, I finally came across the Air Jordan 2 Retro “Concord,” which looking back, was definitely the right choice.”
Thomas Waller (InStyle Accessories Editor) in ADIDAS
"This style is called the ‘Rod Laver’ and the color is new for ADIDAS. I don’t really wear a lot of color, but I do love a colorful pop by way of a shoe, especially in the summer."
E.J. Briones (InStyle Fashion Assistant) in Valentino
"My penchant for shoes is undeniable. So when I saw these Valentino camouflage-print sneakers in the latest collection, I knew I had to have them. By taking a traditional army print and combining it with vibrant colors like sky blue and red, the label gives these sneakers an inherently modern look. And with a row of Valentino’s trademark studs on the heel, they are definitely made to stand out.”

Behind-the-Scenes: Testing Adidas New Springblade Sneakers

“It was so much fun playing guinea pig last week when I tested Adidas’s Springblade sneakers (available on adidas.com starting August 1). The company sent me a pair in neon pink so I could try out the shoe’s new “blade technology,” which uses 16 blades on the soles to spring your movement forward. Together with InStyle.com’s photographer Alex Reside, we went to Rockefeller Center to pound the pavement for a Friday afternoon impromptu photo shoot. Alex made me run in circles around him for 30 minutes just to get the right shot. But it was worth it! By the end, we amassed a mini crowd (so I showed off my new kicks to a bunch of New York tourists) and he took some fun action shots. As for the shoes? They felt as cool as they looked.”
