If there’s one downside to the first beautiful day of spring (and after a gorgeous weekend in New York, I can’t be sure there is), it’s diving into the back of your closet and realizing the styles you once loved have run their course. Nothing brings a cloud over my ray of sunshine like the realization that you hate everything you own. The cure: an instant jolt of reinvigoration from a seriously stylish piece like Proenza Schouler’s lime green leather dress. Incorporating a bright green hue, sleek shape and ultra-cool exposed zipper, this design will definitely put some pep in my repertoire. Best of all, when I see it in my wardrobe next spring, I know I’ll still love it.

Last August, when I purchased a muted paisley iPhone case I was shocked by how often I was told it would “transition nicely to fall.” I’d never before thought of my tech cover as a seasonal item, but now I do. When Prabal Gurung’s collections walk the runway, people take notice! But it’s not just the pretty dresses and strong suiting that caught my eye at the designer’s spring show. Joining forces with an equally celeb-adored label Casadei, the fashion superstar sent his models out in some of the fiercest footwear of the season. Talk about drama: sheer materials like plexiglass and net were reinforced by bold bursts of scarlet leather. A few days ago at Fall Fashion Week, Gurung and Casadei presented another set of statement heels (this time, military-inspired gladiators), once again they’re on my list! Last year, when Emma Stone stepped onto the Golden Globes red carpet in Lanvin, one thought ran through my mind: “I need that belt!” The eagle-embellished cincher was the definite standout on the actress’s two-tone column, but the design would have just as much impact with more casual ensembles. So when I spied the label’s latest wild thing, I fell in love all over again. One of my constant New Year’s goals is to travel more. And like most resolutions, mine’s a promise that I never keep. In 2013, I plan to make a bigger effort to stick to my word and Diane von Furstenberg’s globe clutch will be a constant reminder for me to do so. I’ll tote the quirky beaded leather design with me wherever I go, whether it’s the other side of Manhattan or the opposite end of the map. And until I make it to far away destinations, I’ll know that the world is within my grasp!

Never ones to miss the opportunity to put on a show, Dolce & Gabbana’s runway was one of my spring Fashion Week highlights. Paying homage to the design duo’s native Sicily, organic fabrics like raffia and bent cane juxtaposed bright and textural embellishments. Though some of the numbers were meant to stay on the runway, the label’s sparkly flats adapt the mix for the real world. Like the flashiest catwalk numbers, I too will put on a show when I walk by in these designs.

I love a good mystery—and by that I don’t mean literary whodunits! This topper is a definite head-scratcher: Is it a coat? Is it a cape? Is it a dress? For me, the biggest surprise of last week’s Emmys didn’t happen onstage. More shocking than Tracy Morgan passing out, or Mad Men’s unexpected shutout was how radiant Lucy Liu looked in her flawlessly contoured column. Since my plans don’t include walking the red carpet, I’d swap her style for Versace’s shorter number. Without question the most fun fall trend is feathers. I adore the flights of fancy in shoes, bags, jackets, skirts and jewelry. Among the flock of finery Harry Winston’s Premier Feather watches stand out. The iconic American jeweler commissioned a master craftswoman named Nelly Saunier, one of the few people in the world with skills in feather marquetry, to place the tiny plumes around the face of the timepieces. I love the classics, so when it comes to style icons no one ranks higher than Grace Kelly in my book. Apparently I’m not alone in my adoration as the royal beauty has inspired Mark Cross’s sophisticated crocodile carrier. Much as I’d like to be a Givenchy girl a la Liv Tyler or Rooney Mara, I don’t have the edge for some of the label’s more daring designs. But I could dip one foot (or rather two sleeves) into the Riccardo Tisci pool with this streamlined wool blazer. The lean, classic cut feels totally my style, while the siren red arms lend a fashion-forward edge. I may not pair my topper with the collection’s furry caps and knee-high boots, but my look will be Givenchy through and through.
