Where We Went: Rebecca Minkoff’s Baby Shower
I first met Becky back when we were both in our 20s, years before either of us had started to think about having kids. We had both recently gotten married, and I remember hearing the most amazing stories about her dreamy wedding at a castle in Italy. It was clear to me right away that this was a woman who knew how to throw a party.
At her baby shower last weekend, Minkoff tapped into her whimsical, feminine side with a playful vibe that also felt cool and sophisticated. The lavender color palette was beautifully offset by huge, billowy peonies. The social media-savvy designer even created a humorous hashtag for the event: #babygouda. Here’s the story behind it: When Becky and her husband asked their son Luca what he wanted to name his new baby sister, the two year old came up with the name “Gouda.” It stuck, and the couple have been lovingly referring her as baby Gouda for the past several months (they do promise that they’re not actually going to name their daughter after a type of cheese!). The invitations and décor for the shower were created by Minted, with adorable sweet treats by vegan bakery Babycakes. Each guest left with a beautiful gift bag filled with locally sourced, Brooklyn-made goodies (two favorites were the bamboo-scented Apotheke candle and the dark chocolate with sea salt from Mast Brothers).
